Why You Should Be Training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu For Mixed-Martial Arts
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has a large part in what has become the UFC and MMA. In the early days it was the Gracie family from Brazil that showcased BJJ in all its glory, by putting Royce in some legendary fights. Here are some reasons why you should be training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Beautiful Submissions.
When you watch a BJJ practitioner throw on a submission to their opponent, it almost looks like a work of art. Not to mention the effectiveness of those holds to bringing their opponent to submission.
Watch fighters like BJ Penn slap on a triangle choke, or Royce Gracie put even a rear naked choke. The smooth transitions to these holds make them unexpected and a beautiful tool to utilize in the cage.
Defence From The Back.
There is no better place to throw on a beautiful arm bar or triangle choke than from your back. As soon as a wrestler takes down a seasoned BJJ artist, they're in trouble.
The wrestler better be able to defend a triangle choke. Watch Fedor vs. Fabricio Werdum to know what we're talking about here.
If Striking Isn't Working, Go to the Ground.
Go to the ground. You still see great BJJ fighters striking it out with world class strikers. Seems like not a very clever move. But in fact if they believe that they're actually going to stay up with them, they will least suspect being taken to the ground. Then they will pull out a beautiful submission victory.
Here are some reasons that you should be adding Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to your arsenal of MMA weapons. Add BJJ to your MMA strength and conditioning program and win your fights,

There is a judo club that offers a judo jitsu class twice a week, concentrating on ground game..?
Would it be worth going to the clubs regular judo class, then twice a week in the ground work class? I want a good mma ground game and I am wondering if anyone had a guess as to how effective this class would be over a bjj class. Would I benefit more form the judo classes (counting the ground game classes) and being strong in the clinch, or should simply take the more popular choice and do bjj? Btw I am a wrestler.
Okay, I hope this helps. There is no art called judo jitsu. That is a made up term for that club. It is not recognized anywhere else.
No one here can really answer the question on whether or not you should attend classes there. We have no first hand knowledge of the dojo. What should determine if you go or not is the level of instructions and will this dojo help you reach your goal whatever that may be.
Judo is a great art that is taught by most clubs today as a sport. However, there are some that still teach it for self defense. It is made up of throws, take downs, pins, chokes, and arm bars. it is believed that it is believed that most of your work in a judo class will be on the throws. This may be true for many dojo, but not for all. There are dojo that spend as much time if not more on ground work as a bjj school. This purely depends on the instructor.
