What qualifications must i have to own and rehabilitate wild and exotic animals?
I want to be able to raise and/or rehabilitate wild and exotic animals back to care. What steps must i take to do so?
Licensed wildlife rehabilitators do not own the animals in their care. These people have the specialized training to care for sick, injured and orphaned wild animals and they have the required state and federal licenses that allow them to keep the animals only until they are healthy enough to be returned to the wild.
If a licensed wildlife rehabilitator takes in an animal for rehabilitation, and the animal is injured too badly or for some other reason is not able to be rehabilitated for return to the wild, that rehabilitator can not legally keep the animal unless they are also in possession of a special "educational purpose" license. If they do not have such a license, they must find some other person or facility (like a zoo) that has the proper licenses to take the bird, or they must euthanize the animal. They can not keep the animal as a pet.

If, after reading this, you decide you want to become a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, find a rehabber near you and see if they will let you volunteer with them to get some education and experience.
