The UFC 117 lineup is not one of the many impressive UFC Main Event fights cards that we have seen so far in 2010.
Actually, this year has been the most interesting UFC year in recent memory with leading matches like the Rampage Jackson vs Evans, Lesnar vs Carwin and Rua vs Shogun headlining UFC fights events.
But to date in 2010, the UFC 117 tournament competition hardly compares to the fantastic tournaments of the past. Without question, this is the worst lineup of fights that we have seen in the Ultimate Fighting Championship in many months, but there should still be plenty of fantastic chances to enjoy the fighting competition.
Not only will the Main Event likely be quite anti-climactic, but the payoff on any bet on Silva, the reigning middleweight champion of the world and undefeated since 2006, should be nominal. Some of the rumors of Silva leaving the UFC, which have gone on for years now, arose from contract negotiations and undoubtedly were little more than bargaining chips. But something about the forthcoming UFC 117 tournament competition seems different. Since Silva is at the peak of his UFC fame it would make sense to try and cash in on that before he fades into the spotlight as a punch-drunk has-been, and Silva is now at an age where he is certainly beginning to consider other career choices outside of competing professionally in mixed martial arts.
Everybody understands Silva should destroy Sonnen in a few long and drawn out decisions which will leave everyone yawning and little question that Silva is the greatest competitor at the moment in the MMA tournament series.
One of the matches featured on the Main Card that likely shouldn't be, but is, is the lightweight UFC 117 competition between Rafael dos Anjos and Clay Guida. Neither one of these fighters is going to the top fast, and in writing it is a drastic mismatch. For anyone looking to play the UFC 117 odds it is a huge no-brainer.
To wit: dos Anjos should win this match. In fact, he will not only win this bout but he'll dominate. In writing, this thing is not even close and it makes MMA fans question how needy the competition organizers and Dana White are if this is what they are serving up for Main Event action nowadays.
Guida is a long way from his best and even in his fighting prime he was not all that great. With a career MMA fighting record of 37-11 this guy has been little greater than a professional punching bag or sparing partner for the legitimate contenders in the lightweight UFC division. He is only 5-5 over his last 10 matchups, with only two of the matches being at the Main Event level. Furthermore, he is 28 years old and already on the downward trend of his fighting career. Finally, he has never beaten anyone of consequence and that won't change after the this next UFC competition.
Dos Anjos is hardly a world beater either, but with a record of 14-4 against more established fighters, he is a considerably better competitor than Guida and should win this bout handily.

Do you think Taker and Punk has a chance to get into UFC or MMA?
Between CM Punk and Taker, who has a better chance of getting in UFC or MMA? Note, they have equal fighting abilities, but one is better.
Taker takes like 7 months off a year due to his injuries so no. BUT Taker vs Big Nog would still be entertaining. CM Punk is still "young" but it would take at least one year of intense training to be competitive.
